American Pest was founded by Paul Calvert Cissel as the American Disinfectant Company in 1925, with the philosophy of offering prompt and courteous service at a fair price. Cissel was also a founding member of the National Pest Control Association (now the National Pest Management Association) and served as its President from 1941-1942.
In 2016, American Pest became part of the international pest control company, Anticimex - adding significant technological and educational resources while proudly maintaining our local focus and commitment. In 100 years, American Pest has had only seven presidents, illustrating how much we value local expertise and tradition.
American Pest currently operates out of its state-of-the-art corporate office in Columbia, Maryland, and warehouses in Springfield, Troy, and Richmond, Virginia, and Frederick, Lanham, and Owings Mills, Maryland. The staff includes two PhD entomologists, 16 associate-certified entomologists (ACE), 129 state-certified technicians, and over 450 employees. Services are QualityPro & Quality Pro Green accredited by NPMA, with an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and Angi's Super Service awards for six years and counting.
